Nashville Hot Chicken Heat Levels, Explained: From No Spice to Hell Fire

Fiery Hot Chicken tenders at a Nashville hot chicken heat level

The most common question at our counter in Plano is not what to order — it is how hot to order it. Nashville hot chicken is crispy fried chicken coated in a cayenne-pepper spice blend, and the heat level you pick changes the whole meal. Pick too low and you miss the point. Pick too high on your first visit and you will remember it for the wrong reasons. This guide walks through our seven levels so you can choose with confidence.

At Fiery Hot Chicken, heat is picked per item, not per order. That means one person can have No Spice tenders while someone else at the same table takes Hell Fire wings. Everything is 100% Zabiha halal and certified by HMS, and most sandwiches and meals run $10.99–$14.99 — see the full list on our menu page.

The seven levels, mildest to hottest

How to pick your first level

Start one level below the level you think you want. Heat builds as you eat, so a level that feels mild on the first bite can feel much stronger by the last tender. A simple first order is Fiery Chicken Tenders with fries (3 pc, $13.99) or a Fiery Nashville Sandwich with fries ($13.99) at Just a Burn or Electrical Fire. The sandwich helps too: it comes with coleslaw and pickles on a buttered bun, which gives you a cool, tangy bite between the hot ones.

If you loved it and wanted more, move up one level next visit. That one-step ladder is how regulars find their true level without ruining a meal along the way. Our answers page covers this and other common questions on the FAQ page.

Ordering for a group with mixed tastes

Never put a whole group order at one heat level. Make most of the order No Spice to Electrical Fire, add something at Wild Fire or Grease Fire for the spice fans, and keep Hell Fire as a separate item for whoever asked for it by name. Because heat is chosen per item, trays work the same way — you can split levels across tenders, wings, and sliders in a single catering order. If you are planning that kind of group meal, start with our catering page; any single catering order of $250 or more (pre-tax) placed by December 31, 2026 earns a $50 gift card after pickup or completion, one per order, catering only.

What helps when you overshoot

Order a cooling side with your chicken, not after the heat hits. Coleslaw ($3.99), mac & cheese ($4.49), and fries ($3.99) give you a break between bites, and a sweet finish such as banana pudding ($4.99) or an ice cream shake ($6.99) helps reset your palate at the end. Water is fine, but steady bites of something cool and creamy usually do more work.
